Welcome to the third blog of my “A Day in the Life of…” series! This week we will be meeting Becky, who is a celebrant in my local area!

Hi, I’m Becky from Celebrant Ceremonies by Becky, and I absolutely live, breathe and dream everything about weddings. Are you wondering what an earth a celebrant is?

If it wasn’t for my wedding ceremony five years ago, I would never have become a celebrant. We loved almost every aspect of our day, but we were left really disappointed with our ceremony, the restrictions that applied and how impersonal it was (not to mention the chap that delivered our ceremony, looked like he wished he was anywhere but at our wedding!). Which led me to discover the hidden treasure that are celebrants.

The more I read and the more I discovered that celebrants could create and deliver bespoke ceremonies, the ceremony we had so desperately wanted, the more I knew it was what I wanted to do.

I’ll be forever grateful for our really terrible ceremony!

Five years later, I’m doing the job I dreamt of. Creating beautiful, personal and unique ceremonies for couples and families (I also create vow renewals and naming ceremonies). I love what I do and I’ll be forever grateful for our really terrible ceremony!

If you love the idea of a unique and bespoke wedding ceremony that represents you as a couple, then you may like the idea of a celebrant led wedding ceremony. You can write your own wedding vows (don’t worry, I can give you a helping hand), include handfasting, a sand ceremony, your favourite songs instead of hymns, go down the traditional path of a ceremony, modern or a beautiful blend of both.

Oh, and before I forget a celebrant can deliver your ceremony anywhere (literally, the top of a mountain being one of the most memorable venues), at any time and include anything you want. It’s your ceremony, so have it your way!

As a celebrant I get to know the couples really well before their ceremony. Which makes it so much more meaningful on the day they say “I do” and really helps if any jitters creep in, nervous laughter or happy tears as you have someone you know standing right there with you.

Don’t be afraid to add a little humour and honesty into the mix of true love and romance.”

I often get asked what top tips I’ve learnt over the years when it comes to planning a wedding ceremony. So here goes….

· Choose a venue or place for your wedding that has meaning to you.

· Ensure your wedding ceremony captures the essence of who you are as a couple. This is your ceremony, so do it your way!

· Your wedding vow are the most important part of your ceremony. Take your time with them. Ensure they reflect how you feel about each other and don’t be afraid to add a little humour and honesty into the mix of true love and romance.

If your planning your upcoming wedding, enjoy every minute of it. It truly will be one of the best and most memorable days of your life.
